In H2SO4 Alkylation Units, iron sulfate fouling can be found in all the sections. During a traditional caustic wash, high velocity through the vessels and piping can help to descale some of the iron sulfide layers. However, it is nearly impossible to rely on flow rates to remove unknown amounts for scale deposits from large vessels and large diameter pipes. This leads to corrosion and potential personnel exposure situations during the turnaround maintenance. If too much scale is left behind, high concentrations of iron can contaminate Sulfuric Acid during the start-up phase.

H2SO4 Scale Remover (ETI-982) can effectively dissolve iron sulfate fouling, maximizing the amount of iron removed from the equipment. Thus, avoiding pockets of trapped water and scale which lead to underlayer corrosion.
